Living This Creative Life

I have two favorite quotes. The first one is by Emile Zola, "If you asked me what I came into this world to do, I would tell you that I came to live out loud". I don't know who the second one is by, but it goes like this, "If you're not living on the edge then you might as well jump". Both of these sentiments sum up my personal philosophy of this experience we call life on earth. Enjoy!

Art Every Day, Wednesday, May 29, 2013

Here is today's new piece.  The background is one of the fabrics that I painted this past weekend.  I simply added some layers of solid fabrics; black, red, blue and a strip of yellow green.  Then I top stitched them down with black thread and added some more straight line quilting hear and there in the background.
I really like the over the top energy this one has.  I also like the complexity of the painted fabric playing with the simplicity and repetition of the solid fabrics.  I don't often use this simple of quilting, but it's nice when simple is all that is needed.

Till tomorrow,
Heather

These painted fabrics you did are really interesting and must be a lot of fun to work with!

I especially like the power of the black in this one. It's brought out nicely with the batting border and the punch of the black rectangle, and then accented all over wit the quilting. I love how you used the quilting to extend your brush strokes in different places and to emphasize the blue squares.

The yellow green horizontal bars really add a brightening element to the palette, which seems weird to me to say, with so much red in this. But a lot of the red is dull and so doesn't stand out like the rectangle of it does.

The focal point floats on the surface and yet is so cohesive with it's background.

I love its luminosity as well. Starting in the top left corner, it simply gives off a glow, which fades out as my eye is drawn off to the right side of the piece.

It has a lot of bold vibration and is a great piece!
