Living This Creative Life

I have two favorite quotes. The first one is by Emile Zola, "If you asked me what I came into this world to do, I would tell you that I came to live out loud". I don't know who the second one is by, but it goes like this, "If you're not living on the edge then you might as well jump". Both of these sentiments sum up my personal philosophy of this experience we call life on earth. Enjoy!

Art Every Day, Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Well, as much as I loved yesterday's piece, I'm not in love with today's.  I do like the painted fabric and it's bold lines and colors, and I like the angled strips of fabric too.  But I took a big ol' risk with my choices in the black negative space.  I should have left well enough alone and just stitched it with a small stipple in black thread, but I want to push the limits so, I added more straight lines and a contrasting thread color; blue green.
Now, I'm left with three areas of interest and no place for the eye to rest.  The best I can say is that the three planes of depth are interesting, but unfortunately it's just too much.

Live and learn, till tomorrow,
Heather

I guess this is one of the ones I need to see in person, because I don't see what you do.

I don't find the lines in the black "unrestful" at all. I find that they provide direction and that direction adds depth but because the lines are very close together and in a cool color, I think it still provides a more calm background from the busier colors in the mid and foreground. From further away, I don't even see the lines in the black.

The criss-crossed lines are a fun mid-ground support for the painted pieces out front! They really bring out the paint colors you used and give the piece some unity in an unexpected way.

The painted pieces are fabulous. They have such great variety and are busy- but in a muted way which I think is because of the black and the quilted lines.

Again, a nerve-wracking piece to comment on. I always worry a little when I see things differently than you do. lol
